Berti Medal

The S.C.I., on the initiative of Prof. Giancarlo Berti‘s family, a group of his students, the Department of Pharmacy, the Gruppo Interdivisionale della Chimica dei Carboidrati (GICC) and the Divisione di Chimica Organica della S.C.I., has promoted the institution of a ‘medal’ to be awarded biennially to a scientist who has made contributions of particular scientific interest, either innovative or applicable, in the field of Carbohydrate Chemistry.

Individual nominations for the award of the Medal must be submitted by at least two members of the Società Chimica Italiana who are regular members of the Gruppo Interdivisionale della Chimica dei Carboidrati, with the exception of members of the Governing Board.

Proposals must be received by 30 April 2025 by the Coordinator of the Gruppo Interdivisionale di Chimica dei Carboidrati (Prof. Luigi Lay, University of Milan, Department of Chemistry, Via C. Golgi 19, 20133 – Milan. Tel.+39 02 503 14062 (E-mail: luigi.lay@unimi.it) accompanied by a brief curriculum vitae of the candidate and a short a report highlighting the key aspects of their scientific activity and emphasizing those contributions for which the presenters propose the awarding of the medal.

Nominations will be evaluated by a Committee composed of the Governing Board of the Gruppo Interdivisionale di Chimica dei Carboidrati, the Director pro tempore of the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Pisa or his representative, a representative chosen by Prof. Berti’s family and a Member designated by the Board of the Divisione di Chimica Organica.

The names of the submitting members and those who may have sent letters in support of the candidature will not be disclosed, nor will the content of the letters themselves.

The medal will be presented during the XIX Conference-School on Carbohydrate Chemistry (XIX CSCC 2025) to be held in Pontignano (Siena) from June 22 to 25, 2025
